On July 31, the offshore wind power sub-center of the National Materials Corrosion and Protection Science Data Center, jointly built by State Grid Fujian Electric Power Research Institute and University of Science and Technology Beijing, was unveiled in Fuzhou, Fujian province.

The National Science Data Center for Materials Corrosion and Protection is one of the first 20 national science data centers approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Finance. It has built a national-level data production and accumulation platform system of materials environmental corrosion and protection, which consists of more than 30 national field test stations and distributed corrosion big data observation and test stations. It continues to provide important support for major projects such as large aircraft, lunar exploration projects, manned spacefilght, aircraft carriers, the Three Gorges Project, the West-East Gas Pipeline project, and the South-to-North Water Diversion project.

The offshore wind power sub-center is the first practice of the integration and innovation of digital economy and offshore wind power industry carried out by the National Material Corrosion and Protection Science Data Center and power grid enterprises. It is also the practice of State Grid Fujian Electric Power based on Fujian's resource endowment to support offshore wind power construction and deepen the digital construction of grid equipment anti-corrosion, after deepening the "three major and three first" demonstration power grid and promoting the construction of new power system and the construction of national offshore wind power research and test base and national field scientific observation station.

As one of the provinces with the richest wind resources in China, the annual utilization hours of offshore wind power projects in Fujian exceed 3,100 hours, which the maximum can reach 3,600 hours. The annual utilization hours of offshore wind power projects in Fujian ranks first in China, and the development of offshore wind power has unique advantages. By 2030, Fujian's coastal wind power grid-connected capacity will reach 8 - 10 million kilowatts, which is expected to rank among the top three provinces in China in terms of installed capacity of grid-connected offshore wind power by then. Compared with onshore wind power, the environment of offshore wind power is more complex. Marine corrosion will not only shorten the operation life of the unit, bring huge safety risks to offshore wind power units, but also greatly increase the investment and maintenance costs of offshore wind power construction.

At present, the corrosion monitoring of offshore wind power has the problems of decentralization and insufficient digital support. The lack of data of basic service environment and materials and equipment facilities corrosion will become one of the key factors restricting the development of offshore wind power to deep sea.

Under the leadership and support of National Materials Corrosion and Protection Science Data Center, the offshore Wind power Sub-center will focus on five aspects of offshore wind power corrosion data resource collection and service capabilities, corrosion test sites and network observation capabilities, data information resource standardization and quality system, data analysis and mining tools and data product development, and data resource opening and sharing service, based on Fujian’s offshore wind power resource endowment.

After the completion of the offshore wind power sub-center, it will try to establish more than 500 field observation points for offshore wind power environmental corrosion, carry out corrosion monitoring of key components of wind power units, form a monitoring system for offshore wind power corrosion and equipment safety covering offshore wind farms throughout the country, and further fill in the current gap of the national corrosion station in the field of offshore wind power observation. The offshore wind power corrosion digital twin platform will be built, and the corrosion resistance performance prediction model data software products will be formed, which will provide support for the research and development of corrosion resistant materials and the application of corrosion protection coatings and other corrosion protection technologies. It will scientifically guide equipment material selection, differentiated anti-corrosion, and early hidden danger detection, reduce the construction investment and operation and maintenance costs of offshore wind power, improve the operation and maintenance level of offshore wind power equipment, and supplement the important links of the offshore wind power industry chain.

Relying on the joint construction of offshore wind power sub-center, State Grid Fujian Electric Power and University of Science and Technology Beijing will deepen the cooperation between schools and enterprises, open up the key links of government, industry, education, research and application, deepen the cooperation in the research and development of offshore wind power series products, database construction, standard evaluation system construction, and reference and promotion of key projects, firmly promote the construction of a first-class offshore wind power sub-center of national material corrosion and protection science data center, and strive to build it into a national offshore wind power corrosion big data center with mature offshore wind power material equipment corrosion big data collection, management, analysis and early warning capabilities, which radiates to Southeast Asia, serves the national new energy to sea, "One Belt and One Road" and other important strategies.
